Handmade Couture Scarves (by my son)

My 14 year old son has been working on his Christmas presents tonight. He loves to sew and came up with this design for some scarves for the "women" in his life. It's very haute couture don't you think!? The scarf is just 3 layered strips of fabric, in this case 2 fabrics and 1 lace. Use pinking shears to cut the strips to minimize fraying, although the fraying adds to the character of the scarf. After layering the fabric strips together, run a gathering stitch up the center and pull to desired fullness. Next, pin and sew up the center using two lines of stitching. He used a contrasting thread color to add more detail. Gee... do I have the next Ralph Lauren on my hands?

Free Avocado!

Free avocado, so yummy!! I always joke that I would be perfectly happy sitting on a beach at the Iberostar in Playa del Carmen eating nothing but guacamole and shrimp. Actually I am not joking I am perfectly serious! For your free avocado, click HERE .

Neighbor Gifts... check!

I think I may have found the perfect gift for neighbors this year. Energy and money are always running low (what's new LOL) which makes this gift idea perfect. Using either a store bought or homemade cake mix (don't forget the directions), place it in a cute bag (of which there are so many options!) and add this poem: I hope you will excuse me for giving you this bag, I did the very best I could with the precious time I had. I should have known from the start when the eggs fell through the shopping cart. I set aside a day to bake, the only day I didn't wake. Then the flour fell off the shelf, not on the floor but over myself. I tried again with no success with cake mix running down my dress. I've given up! its yours to bake, I hope you enjoy it for goodness sake. There you go; easy, simple and clever! Thank you craftbits.com for the great idea!!

2nd and 3rd Days of Christmas...they're back!!

Our little Christmas angels (elves?) are back. Last night we got the "Two Turtle Doves" package... chocolate turtles and dove chocolates. Tonight was so hilarious and original, it's still making me smile! Since the 3rd day of Christmas is 3 French Hens we got.... 3 cornish game hens and french bread, so clever! They were placed atop a fun Christmas platter. The kids are starting to get excited and trying to second guess what we will get next. Josie wants to know how they will do maids a milking and Oliver is excited to see 5 gold rings. Thank you, thank you to our special Christmas angels for making our holiday a little more merry!!

The First Day of Christmas

We woke up this morning to a beautiful surprise at our front door...a partridge in a pear tree! I have no idea who decided to give us this fun gift or even if it was placed there last night or this morning. I just love it!! And you know those pears will disappear quickly at my house. :) Have you ever wondered what the real cost would be for the items in the song The 12 Days of Christmas ? According to CBS.com , the cost of a partridge in a pear tree for 2010 is $161.99. I think I'll stick with my beautiful basket delivered by unseen friends! Merry Christmas!!
